Art towns

Tuscany, with its 3,000 years of history, is one of the biggest open air museums in the world.

A walk through the Etruscan Gate and the Roman Amphitheatre of Volterra, a town which dates back to 3,000 BC, will take you back to the age of the two oldest civilizations in Italy ( 900 BC 400 AD).

The Leaning Tower and the Campo dei Miracoli of Pisa, still show the power this town had between 1.000 a.d. 1.200 a.d., when Pisa’s navy controlled the whole Western Mediterranean.

The shell shaped square Piazza del Campo of Siena and the eleven towers of S.Gimignano, with their red bricks, are the symbols of the middle age (900 a.d – 1.400 a.d.)in Tuscany.

Florence is the town where one of the most important artistic and cultural revolutions took place with the birth of the Italian language (14th century) and the Renaissance (16th and 17th centuries).

The Renaissance defensive walls (16th century) makes Lucca magic; Elisa Baciocchi (the sister of Napoleon) and the opera composer Giacomo Puccini are still alive in the bricks of their homes.
