Outskirts of Tuscany and special events


The outskirts of the Tuscan region offer many other opportunities for daily tours; on the northern border, not far from the “Versilia” and the marble mountains are the “Cinque Terre”, one of the most beautiful coasts in Italy.

In the south the Umbria region considered the green heart of Italy with lake Trasimeno, the capital Perugia famous for its chocolate, the etruscan Orvieto and Assisi the birthplace of S. Francis.

During the summer season, many special events are organized in Tuscany; many of them, like the popular horse race “Palio di Siena” that take place twice per year in July and August, have a very long old tradition.

The autumn is the harvest season for grapes and olive oil; fairs and festivals take place in the main squares of the various villages of the countryside. Another high point are the white and black truffles; important fairs take place in November in S. Giovanni d’Asso (Siena) and S. Miniato (Pisa).
